Zeke and Mom have returned from their latest adventure; a trip to the mountains of WV. We had a wonderful time playing and walking on the Hatfield McCoy trail. It was during the week so it was quiet and the snow made it very beautiful. It was Zeke's first time seeing snow, not that impressed.

brush with the law?
Zeke and mom tried to go for a run at the Summerville Sawgrass trail but they still have our area off of Luden Drive blocked by all kinds of heavy equipment. So we had to come up with plan B and decided to try to swim at the Ponds. Though it was cold, Zeke swam some and then Z and mom played frisbee. Zeke made some killer catches. Just as we had loaded up to leave, two sheriff's patrol cars pull up behind us; one gets out wants to know what we are doing and if we live there. We said no and just playing frisbee. Then he told us to have a good day and left. Kinda random, I think where we were is open to the public, maybe we just looks shifty.

gettin out to the park
Just got back from Wannamaker Dog park. When we first arrived Xyla the young Belgian Malmois was all alone so we got her up and running. Then Duke, an older Weim, showed up and Zeke aggravted him by constanly sniffing. Then a 6 month old German shepherd boy showed up followed by a boxer named Jaeger, pretty soon it was just the young boys running the show.
Here is Zeke with the young GS pup and Jaeger.

running at the dog park
Zeke and Sadie went to the Wassamasaw Dog Park after work and finally lucked into having some friends to play with. One dog was especially fun because he was a RUNNER (like Forrest Gump meets Usain Bolt) so the pups had a great time with that. Now we are all going to crash on the couch.

Thanksgiving Week in Review
Tuesday morning we went to our current favorite swimming spot, then we stopped by All is Well (a pet health food store) Summerville location for the first time. They have great toys and treats and really helpful people. Zeke and Sadie picked up deer antler chews which they have been enjoying all week.

foggy day
Zeke is on vacation this week! We started the morning with a very foggy run and then dropped off some things at the Habitat ReStore.
Then we came home and waited on Lowe's to bring the new refrigerator, which has arrived and recieved Zeke's approval.
We have doing some remodeling of Zeke's house and that has put BIG FUN on the back burner and made posting rather sparse and dull, but most of the work is done now and hopefully some pictures will be up soon.

bluffs point and stressful dogs
Zeke and mom went out deer watching again, this time out to Bluffs Point. And also saw some turkey tracks, but alas, no turkeys.
Things were going swell until Zeke heard someone else talking in the woods and BOLTED from mom at mach 2, wouldn't respond to calls or whistle. After a few minutes yelping was heard in the distance and then Z comes barreling back to his mom. We couldn't locate any injuries, but have no idea what went down.
At that point mom packed it up and got back to the truck as quick as possible.

WOOF or TREAT!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Hope everyone had a fun and safe one. Zeke had a blast going to PetSmart today to trick-or-treat, while we picked up some snacks. Everyone loved Sadie's bumblebee costume... except Sadie, she pretty much hated wearing any part of it, particularly the antennae. Zeke took a walk through the neighborhood in his SuperZeke costume and lots of kids said hi to him and would yell out 'Hey there's Super Dog!'. One of the neighbors did their yard up so cool as a cemetery with lots of spooky decorations. And yesterday at work, Zeke's friends came dressed up as well; we had a French maid and Snow White.
So all in all a pretty good Halloween.

sniffing and being sniffed.
Before heading into work this morning, Zeke stopped by Wannamaker dog park. We don't typically go to this dog park early on Saturday mornings, but if this is a typical Saturday AM we might come back more often. There was just the right amount of dogs for having fun, but no crazy ones and everybody seemed pretty chill. In the mix were a pack of beagles, a boxer and two really pretty pointers.

life lesson: don't run with sharp sticks in your mouth
...or you may spend your Friday at the vet getting splinters removed from your throat!
Zeke was running with a stick he found during his Friday morning playtime, when mom heard a YELP and turned to see the stick coming straight out of Zeke's open mouth, he managed to get it dislodged before mom could get over to him but there was about an inch worth of blood on the very sharp end of the stick. Mom of course goes into panic mode, but of course Zeke won't let mom look into his mouth but there isn't any blood pouring out, so we try to carry on.
By the time Z and mom make it to work he is not acting normal; he will not take treats and is shaking. Luckily Dr. Pernell, the vet who did Zeke's broken leg surgery, is just down the street from Zeke's office. Dr Pernell tells us to bring him in, and after examining Zeke and seeing the puncture in the back left side of his mouth, says we need to sedate him and check for any pieces of stick that may have become lodged.
Its certainly a good thing we did, because Dr P did indeed find a big chunk of splinter (which he kept for us to have a souvenir) and said that would have turned into an abscess. While he was checking things out he also found that the cut extended another three centimeters back into his throat, so he put two sutures in to keep from food and other things from becoming stuck.
Zeke was able to come home in the afternoon, very out of it from being sedated. He spent the rest of Friday evening sleeping it off on the couch. Lots of antibiotics and soft food for a week, but he seems to be doing much better one day later.
