surprise visit

This is Zeke's sister Lucy. Her dad had to stop by my work today and he had her riding along. Lucy is just precious!

Lucy visited with Zeke a few weeks after we had them and they romped really hard, with Lucy most definitely putting it on Zeke. Zeke is looking forward to getting better so he can play with Lucy again.

bandana bonanza

I am slightly crazy for doggie bandanas. Top picture was bought at PetFest and the John Deere one we made.

article and a pic

Taken May 4, 2008. I was trying to pose him for some cool gun dog shots.

Also, yesterday read this article on Early Spay/Neuter Considerations , thought it was pretty interesting. We are probably going to wait and get a prelim on Zeke's hips before we decide if he gets to keep them or not.

Good morning from Zeke!

This is Zeke after we broke the news to him that he is only a few pounds lighter than his 6 year old sister.

Some time ago I planned to post some pictures that had been taken prior to Zeke starting his blog. Now that things seem to be on a more positive path, I hope that we can return to that plan.

Drug Free

As a side note, the Doctor told us we could go drug free. This is going to be interesting because Zeke really wants to play like he is not hurt. Looks like we are going to have to get more Roasted Pigs Ears.

doctor visit

Zeke had a two week check up today. The dr did more x-rays and the bone continues to heal straight, despite the bottom screw and now there is another screw starting to back out. So it looks as though all the hard un-fun work has been paying off. Still under crate confinement and sling supported short walks for the next 3 weeks. Follow up on July 15th, which will be 7 weeks post op.

For the record he is 21 weeks old today and weighs 51.8lbs

In other news. Mr Thumper sent a link to a doggie camo hoodie, which is just alright until I realized he was sending it to me because the model dog looks just like Zeke! I was blown away.... here is the photographic evidence:

roasted pig ears = puppy cocaine

When Zeke is a wild beast and won't settle, you can give him one of these and he will chill out while he devours it, I think it might contain some addictive products. Roasted pig ears at Sam's Club are awesome, they pretty much stink but our dogs LOVE them.

locked up!

Zeke is five months old today!!!!!!!! It's been awhile since we posted, but we've been overwhelmed with keeping Zeke still and calm so he doesn't mess the plate up any more. That translates to in the crate or someone laying on the floor with him at all times--it makes for some long days.

Here is his incision with the staples out, its healing nicely. The fur is coming back in, too bad he'll have to go thru all that again when the plate comes out.

staples out, crate in

The staples came out yesterday, but as posted previously we moved that up so the Dr could check out his sudden change. Took an X-Ray and he has broken one of the screws holding the plate in his leg. So the end of the plate is not securing the bone any more. The good news is that right now the bone is still in a good position and if it doesn't move any more they won't have to go in an surgically repair the plate. But now they will have to take the plate out after he has healed, which before it would just have stayed in.

He's not allowed to come to work anymore, per the dr's orders, even riding in a car could be too much movement for his leg. We have him crate confined and only out for bathroom breaks. Instead of the sling being a safety net as we orignally understood, we are now to support the weight on his hindquarters and only let his feet touch the ground, no load bearing. Set up a midday visit with the pet sitter so they could let him out.

We go back in two weeks, unless we notice any set backs.

not a great weekend

I'm still not sure what Zeke did or if its anything serious, but since the weekend he has been walking with a limp and favoring his injured leg, like he hasn't done since we picked him up from surgery. We think he is possibly just painful/sore from too much walking. I pray that he has not reinjured it. I just spoke with the tech and we are moving his appt up to tomorrow morning and she said to keep him off of it, just going outside to the bathroom

green with envy

Zeke, the growing boy that he is, recently outgrew another collar. So he picked this green adjustable number as an in-between while I get to ordering him a big boy collar.
*Zeke is still doing well, we hope to get some lessened restrictions as far as activity level when we go back to the vet next week.

medical update

When all of these get to be too much for us

We have some fun times to relieve stress...

So Zeke might not think its actually fun times--he kind of looks put out to me. The vet gave us this satellite dish to keep Zeke from chewing on his staples, but Zeke, being the super pup he is, hasn't bothered them in the least. So he doesn't have to wear the cone, except for last night for a photo op.

As for Zeke's status, he is getting along very well, I have started reducing his pain meds a little so he does not fall prey to addiction and find himself like so many other dogs relagated to a life on the streets.

He climbed the stairs yesterday and went back down them with a little extra support. Zeke is back to work with me, he mostly stays in my office as the floors in the hallways are too slick for him and he is still on medical orders to stay calm and quiet. I think everyone is glad to have him back.

Tooth Fairy

I knew we were starting to deal with teething, and then Zeke presents me with this:

His first baby tooth out (that we have found). Maybe if he puts it under his pillow tonight then he will have biscuit when he wakes in the morning.

It seems like only yesterday he was just a tiny pup and now he is growing up. *tear*
