rockin' the new navy camos
The bugs are also out in full force now that it is so wonderfully humid in SC. Zeke got into some fire ants or something like that and ended up with a bunch of bumps from infected bites on his head. Dr. Chad gave him some antibiotics, but we guess its just going to be a casualty of playing in the woods so much.

Fathers Day and Dog Days
For Father's Day Zeke's dad wanted to go to the baseball game, because it was also the third dog day game of the season for the Charleston Riverdogs. It was pretty hot, so we didn't stay for the whole game, but Zeke got to see about 6 innings of shutout baseball.
Its a dog day Fathers Day at the Joe!

Buddy's Barber Shop
Need a haircut but don't want your lab to be lonely? Buddy's Barber Shop is Zeke's solution! Whenever dad needs a trim he goes to see the dog loving stylists at Buddy's. Dad gets a good haircut and Zeke gets loving while sitting in the waiting area.
Zeke was a very good boy today, he came inside and laid right down without an fuss. The sound of the clippers might have made him a little nervous.

Montreux Bar and Grill
Zeke ate out this week at Montreux Bar and Grill in Summerville. They keep moving the outside seating around so it has been hard to figure out when we can go there (evidently you cannot serve alcohol on the sidewalk in front of of the restaurant, but its okay if the tables are setup on the side of the building). Anyway, it finaly worked out, and Zeke got to help dad and mom with their delicious dinners. He got his own pie plate with cold water. Definitely a cool place to eat and hang out.

sunday hiking
Over the Friday-Saturday-Sunday range, Zeke went swimming all three days and had a blast. He jumped into the water from the ledge today two times; which is a major step towards him overcoming his apprehension of jumping off of docks into the water. Trying to utilize his initial get out of the car energy along with redirecting the fear by immediately throwing a fun bumper after he climbs out back out. We ran into some folks out walking and swimming their two labs as well.
We also went for a hike this morning, inadvertently scared some quail and got caught in some rain.

Zeke goes Greek!
This evening after a long day at work; Zeke decided to try out the Continental Corner. A lovely Greek restaurant that has been in Summerville for way longer than Zeke. We had seen other folks sitting outside with their dogs before, but this was Zeke's first try. The waitstaff was very friendly and brought Z a container of ice water to drink. He even got some puppy love from a lady who told us about her two boxers at home who love to eat Greek food. Zeke shared some of the grilled chicken from mom's pasta salad and thought it was delicious!

do dogs get chicken pox?
I don't think so, but yesterday I wasn't so convinced. Around 3pm some bumps were felt behind Zeke's left ear. There was only a small area affected but it had numerous bumps. The bumps could be felt easier than be seen; the were under the skin and didn't have any sign of redness or bite. And while Zeke didn't seem bothered by the bumps and wasn't scratching at them, Mom started to go into panic mode. Thankfully our vet (shout out Central Veterinary) got us in at the end of the day. Amber the vet tech thought Zeke might have gotten into some fire ants--possible as Zeke gets into everything. Dr Chad took a look at them and said whatever got Zeke got him pretty good as the bumps were a result of an infection. He gave us some antibiotics and a few days worth of prednizone to help with the inflammation.
This morning the bumps feel bigger, but we probably need to give the medicine time to work.

always have a plan B
This evening Zeke was supposed to go to Salty Mike's and celebrate the boss man, Charles Fox, returning from his cross country bicycle trip to raise money for Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy. We asked Charles if the place was dog-friendly and he told us 'yeah, absolutely, Daniel goes there all the time with his dogs'. We were very excited about checking out a new place in downtown Charleston only to pull up in the parking lot and see a sign that said NO DOGS OR CHILDREN ALLOWED. What a major bummer!
Since we were already downtown we decided to check out the Three Dog Bakery, where Zeke got some special treats like carrot cake and a crunchy bone for Sadie. Also picked up some low-fat apple training treat bites. Zeke met some other pups in the store including a very young brindle mastiff and one of the store dogs was a small female chocolate lab.
So lessons learned today? Always have a Plan B and don't ever trust Charles (j/k).
