wasp attack follow up

Mom and Dad returned to the scene yesterday evening to go on a rescue mission for the training dummy duck Zeke and mom abandoned after being viciosuly attacked by wasps. Dad's plan: A rake, bug spray, and ninja like agility. Mom's plan... stay the heck out of the way.

Success!

Oh and on the way to get the duck we saw this rattlesnake coiled up in the brush. Scary but cool.

when wasps attack, part the first

Before going to work this morning, Zeke was inspired by the Super Retriever Series show on Versus and wanted to go swimming. He just happened to have a run in with a wasp nest. He was stung at least twice. He has a bump on his nose and a swollen ear and he is lucky that is all, there were probably 60 wasps swarming around. Mom and Z high-tailed it out of there and we left his dead fowl sitting directly under the wasp nest.

Zeke got a benadryl when he got to work and we discovered the swollen ear. One 25 mg tablet.

Check back for part two as dad is planning on rescuing the toy duck stranded underneath the wasp nest later.

Italian Bistro

How exciting! One of mom and dad's favorite places to eat now has an outdoor eating area that is totally dog friendly. Italian Bistro is in Knightsville in the shopping center with the Mr K's Piggly Wiggly. They serve delicious pizzas and dad's favorite strombolis. Sadie and Zeke tried some marinara sauce and had some water brought out to them!

The boss said Zeke needed a break so Zeke took a splash break!

a new swimming hole

Zeke is always on the look out for new places to swim and this land development seemed to provide a couple of good gator free ponds.
Instead of retrieving the bumper Zeke thought this awesome log would be a better prize.

Ready for more swimming!

Thunderstorms have become scary.

Storms, lightning and thunder have never bothered Zeke in the past (and during the summer we have quite our share of thunderstorms). However, the past few days has gotten him more than a little worked up. We got home Tuesday just before a storm popped up and Zeke wouldn't eat his dinner, he got up on the couch and sat with mom. Then last night we were abruptly awoken by some serious lightning and thunder, Zeke was standing up at full alert and then started shaking as the storm continued to rage on. We got Zeke up in the bed with us to try and relax him while the storm passed on, then eventually tried to play fetch with him in the house to take his mind off the noise.

fresh and clean

Today was bath day, oh what a joy for Zeke. But he smells so nice now and his coat is so soft and shiny.
Today was the first day mom attempted brushing Zeke's teeth. A little plaque could be seen on his rear molars, so we took the vanilla flavored dog toothpaste and went at it. Zeke really was not interested in opening up to give good brushing access. He had a little bleeding on his gums on the left side, so probably need to keep up on Zeke's dental hygiene.

some new bandannas

Zeke has been showing off some new outfits at work the past two weeks. Above he is wearing his new palmetto state bandanna, and below is the dog biscuit pattern kerchief his momma just made for him.

hiking and the lake

Zeke went hiking on the Palmetto Trail this morning and even though it was really hot, everyone had an awesome time. We found a spot where Zeke and Sadie could get in the lake and they swam around and played to cool off before hiking back to the trailhead. Now its time to cool off on the tile!

surprise guest

About dinner time yesterday our doorbell rang ...

Neighbor: Are you missing a dog?

Zeke's Dad: (Looks down at barking dogs) No both of ours are right here.

Neighbor: Oh, there is a dog over by the mailboxes that looks like yours.

So we go over to the mailboxes and sure enough a petite female black lab is running around. She has on a yellow collar that says "Zoe" and is friendly enough with some treats and comes with us. We take her into the house and she meets Zeke and Sadie and fun times ensue. We called the number on her collar and left a voicemail. So she gets to hang out at the lab compound for awhile. Zoe is VERY quick and obviously young ready to romp with Zeke.

They all had fun chasing each other (and one incidence of chasing the cat) and ended up panting on the floor. Then Zeke's dad tried the # again and got ahold of Zoe's dad. He was totally surprised, did not know she had gotten out! He came by and picked her up on the way home. He lives in our neighborhood so the kids made a new friend last night!

horse with no name

Zeke went to Riverfront park this morning and they have added new random pieces of art along the river.
